A word of WARNING!

The current buzz trend in marketing is to build thousands of followers on Twitter, or friends on Facebook.
Don’t fall into this trap.
A list of 1000 people who you can genuinely help, and who are genuinely interested in the information that you have to offer, is worth more to you than a list of 100,000 social bandits who will never ever purchase anything from you.
If you’re not an Obama or Winfrey, don’t try and pretend that you are, you’ll soon get found out.
Do’s & Don’t in Social Media platforms:

DO: Concentrate on your game-plan, which is to make more sales.
DON’T: Try and cater for the shallow thinking souls who are impressed by large followings, these people are not prospective clients. DO: Impress with the quality of your content and products! Social Media platforms do not make it easy for marketers. They are constantly changing their joining or submission procedures.
Ahhh and then we have Social Media Analytics?
A huge industry has grown up around measuring the success of your Social Media Marketing campaigns. In my opinion, a lot of the excitement is hype, that enables lower management to be able to report their achievements, or lack of, to senior management.
So a video has had 1 million views on YouTube and the other video sharing sites.
So what?
The question that needs answering is really quite simple.
What was the objective of the campaign? Building an opt-in list?
The answer can be found in a flash. What was the size of the list in the data base on Date 1 compared to Date 2!
Be careful not to waste a lot of time on this aspect of your campaigns.
At the end of the day, the “number of views”, “number of comments” or “number of followers” is largely irrelevant. “Page views” and “conversions” give you a simple but true picture.
All you need is Google Analytics, currently free!
Before you start, decide what the objective of the campaign is, and how you will know its value.
Time spent on creating and distributing “TARGETED, KEYWORD-LOADED” content, that solves your prospects’ problems, will reap rewards.
